Permission Roles Explained

Learn what each of the 4 permission roles in CompanyCam can do, including access to Projects, billing, and account settings.

CompanyCam has 4 permission roles: Admin, Manager, Standard, and Restricted. Each role controls what a User can see and do across Projects, photos, documents, and account settings. Assigning the right role to each User keeps your account organized and your data secure.


The 4 permission roles

Note: Only Admins and Managers can edit User permission roles. Managers can update permission roles for other Managers, Standard Users, and Restricted Users, but they cannot assign a role higher than their own.

Admin

Best for: company owners, presidents, controllers, or office admins. Admins have complete control of the account, including:

  • Access to billing and subscription details

  • Access to all Projects and features

  • Ability to manage Users

  • Ability to create and manage Templates

  • Ability to connect, disconnect, and manage integration settings

Manager

Best for: crew leads, foremen, or supervisors. Managers can:

  • Access to all Projects and features

  • Ability to manage Users

  • Ability to create and manage Templates

  • Ability to connect, disconnect, and manage integration settings for select integrations

Standard

Best for: crew members, full-time employees, or technicians. Standard Users can:

  • Access to all Projects within the account, but can't manage Users, billing, or company-wide settings.

Restricted

Best for: subcontractors, part-time employees, or anyone who only needs access to specific jobs.

  • Can only see Projects they create or are assigned to by an Admin or Manager.

  • Cannot manage Users, billing, or company-wide settings.

FAQs

Where can I view the permission roles of other Users on my account?

Admins, Managers, and Standard Users can view all Users' permission roles on the web. Go to the Team tab in the left-hand navigation menu — roles are listed next to each User's name. Restricted Users don't have access to the Team tab.

Can permission roles be edited?

Admins and Managers can edit any User's permission role at any time. Only Admins can assign the Admin role.

What happens to a User's Project access if their role changes from Standard to Restricted?

It depends on how they got access to that Project. If the User created a Project as a Standard User and then becomes Restricted, they don't retain access. If they were assigned to a Project as a Standard User and then become Restricted, they do retain access.

Can all permission roles access all Projects?

Admin, Manager, and Standard Users have access to all Projects on the account. Restricted Users can only see Projects they created or were assigned to.

What can be assigned to Users?

Users can be assigned to Projects, Checklists, and Project Tasks.
