Building an Advanced Checklist Template

Learn how to create an Advanced Checklist Template with conditional logic and drag-and-drop sections.

Advanced Checklists give your team a smarter way to standardize job-site work. You can build Templates with conditional logic that show or hide fields based on what's entered, drag and drop to restructure sections, and require photos to complete any field.

This feature is available on select plans and can only be created on the web app.


Creating an Advanced Checklist Template

Note: Only Admins and Managers can create Checklist Templates.

Log in to CompanyCam > go to Templates > Checklists in the left sidebar.

  1. Click on the Checklists Tab, then click + Create Checklist Template.

  2. In the drop-down menu, click Advanced Checklist.

  3. Add a Template Name and Description.

  4. Click + Add Section to create a new Section.

  5. Click + Add Field to create a new Field.

  6. Give the Field a title with the task that needs to be completed.

  7. Once you've given the Field a title, choose 1 of the following question types:

    • Yes/No (ask for a yes/no answer)

    • Rating (ask for a 1-5 rating)

    • Multi-Select (ask a question where multiple answers can be selected)

    • Single-Select (ask a question where a single answer can be selected)

    • Text (Ask for a text response)

  8. Use the drag and drop option to reorder Fields and Sections at any point as you build.


Adding conditional logic

Conditional logic lets you build follow-up questions that only appear when a crew member selects a specific answer. Crews only see what's relevant to their job, nothing more.

  1. Select a field within your Template.

  2. To add conditional logic to a Field, hover your cursor over the answer field, and click + Add Conditional Field.


Requiring photos and videos

To ensure crews capture the right documentation at the right step, you can require photos/videos to be taken before a Field can be completed.

To require photos/videos for a Field, click on the Camera Icon in the Template Builder.


Duplicating Fields and Sections

To duplicate a Field or Section, hover over the area and click on the Duplicate Icon.

What's the difference between Classic and Advanced Checklists?

Classic is the original Checklist experience you've always used. Advanced is the new experience, built with conditional logic and a redesigned Template builder.

Can I convert an existing Classic Checklist Template to an Advanced Checklist Template?

Classic and Advanced Templates are separate at this time. If you have an existing Classic Template and would like to transform it into an Advanced Checklist, you'll want to rebuild your Template in the Advanced builder to use the new features.

Who can create and edit Templates?

Only Admins and Managers can create and edit Advanced Checklist templates. All roles can complete checklists in the field.

Can I duplicate an existing Template?

Yes. You can duplicate an existing Template by navigating to the Template > clicking the 3 Dots Icon in the right corner > Duplicate.

Can I build an Advanced Checklist Template in the mobile app?

No. Building Advanced Checklist Templates is not available on the mobile app right now.

What is the difference between a Section and a Field?

Sections are organizational containers that group related fields together. Think of them like phases, categories, or even rooms of a job (for example, "Pre-Work," "Kitchen," or "Final Walkthrough"). Fields are the individual items crew members actually respond to, like a question, a photo prompt, or a text input. Every field lives inside a section, so you'll set up your sections first, then build out the fields within each one.
