Managing Standard User Access to the MCP Server (Beta)

Learn how Admins and Managers turn Standard User access to the CompanyCam MCP Server on or off, and how Standard Users connect and manage AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT.

Standard Users can connect AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT to CompanyCam. It's on by default, and Admins and Managers can turn it off any time. Standard Users see and manage their own connections from the Connected AI tools page.

This feature is only available on the web app and requires a personal account to the AI tool you wish to connect.

Turning off Standard User access stops every Standard User's AI tools from working with CompanyCam.

Turn Standard User access on or off

Admins and Managers can change this setting.

Log in to CompanyCam, click CompanyCam MCP under Integrations in the lefthand navigation, then scroll to the Access permissions card.

Turn Allow standard users on or off.

It's on for every account by default. The setting covers all Standard Users, so you can't pick individual Users yet.

When it's on, a What standard users do next block shows in the same card. It has 3 links: Open the Claude directory, Open the setup guide, and Open Connected AI tools.

These settings are off by default. Turn each one on if you want Standard Users to have it through their AI tool:

  • Documents lets them read and create documents, files, and folders.

  • Sales Tools lets them read, create, and update proposals and invoices, and read the Price Book.

  • Personal access tokens lets them create their own access tokens to authenticate with other tools.

Updating the Price Book through an AI tool is a separate setting, Price Book write and update, under Admin-only MCP tools. It stays off until you turn it on, and only Admins and Managers can ever use it.

Connect an AI tool as a Standard User

Admins, Managers, and Standard Users can connect AI tools. Restricted Users and Collaborators can't.

Click on your User Icon > Connected AI Tools.

  1. Click Add CompanyCam to Claude.

  2. Sign in to CompanyCam when prompted.

  3. Approve access.

The page says No AI tools connected until you connect your first tool.

Using ChatGPT or Cursor? Click See the setup guide on the same page. It opens the MCP setup guide in a new tab. For step-by-step setup in each tool, including Grok Bot, see Connecting the CompanyCam MCP Server (Beta).

See and disconnect your AI tools

Connected AI tools lists every AI tool connected to your CompanyCam account. Each row shows the tool's Name, what it can do under Access, and the date it was Connected. Tools you add later show up here too.

Click on your User Icon > Connected AI Tools, find the tool in the list, then click Disconnect.

Once you disconnect, the tool loses access to your CompanyCam data right away.
