The MCP Server lets AI tools read and update your CompanyCam data from the AI tool chat. This article covers what you can ask your AI tool to do, what it can and can't touch in CompanyCam, and answers to common questions. If you haven't connected the MCP Server yet, see Connecting the CompanyCam MCP Server (Beta).

This feature is available on select plans, is in Beta, and is only available on the web app. Plan availability is subject to change.

What you can ask for

Once you're connected, you can ask your AI tool things like:

"Pull up the Johnson Project" — get its photos, comments, documents, and status without opening the app.
"Which of these photos show the finished flashing?" or "Flag any photo that's missing a tag" — your AI tool looks at the photos directly, not just their file names.
"Tag and organize this photo backlog by trade" — auto-tag and clean up a pile of untagged photos.
"Create the Maple St reroof, add our standard inspection checklist, and put Mike and Sara on it" — stand up a new Project, Checklist, and User assignment in one request.
"Write this week's Project Recap" — pull a summary from comments and photo activity across your Projects.
Set up a webhook to connect CompanyCam to another tool, without needing an engineer.

What your AI tool can read and change

When you set up the MCP Server, you chose Read only or Read & write access for your token. The table below shows what's possible with Read & write. If you chose Read only, your AI tool can look up everything in the Can read column, but can't make any of the changes in Can change.

What's not supported yet

Deleting or removing things. Your AI tool can't delete Photos, tags, Users, webhooks, or similar today. There's no token scope that grants delete access, so nothing it does can permanently remove data from your account.
Pages, the activity feed, and video transcripts aren't accessible yet.
Promoting a User to Admin or Owner. That still has to happen in CompanyCam.

FAQs

Is the MCP Server fully released?

The MCP Server is still in Beta. What your AI tool can read and change today may expand or change as we roll it out more broadly.

What can I ask the MCP Server to do?

You can ask your AI tool to pull up a job, look at and tag your Photos, draft a job recap, or create a new Project with a checklist and crew already assigned.

Can my AI tool delete anything in CompanyCam?

No. Deleting and removing actions aren't available yet, so your AI tool can't permanently remove Photos, tags, Users, or other data from your account.

Does my AI tool use my own CompanyCam permissions?

Yes. Your AI tool acts through your Personal Access Token, so it can only do what you could do yourself in CompanyCam.

Can an AI agent create or edit Pages?

No. Pages editing is not currently supported through the MCP Server. CompanyCam Pages use a rich-text editing system that isn't supported by the public API, so the ability to author or edit Pages has been deferred.

Which AI tools work with the MCP Server?

Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor can all connect to the MCP Server. Once connected, Claude is available through Claude Chat, Cowork, and Code. See Connecting the CompanyCam MCP Server for setup steps for each tool.

What if my AI tool isn't seeing new capabilities?

Restart your session. New tools don't show up until the session refreshes.

How do I disconnect my AI tool from CompanyCam?

Revoke your access token from Access Tokens in CompanyCam, or remove the connector from your AI tool's settings. Either way, your AI tool loses access immediately. See Connecting the CompanyCam MCP Server for details.

Is my CompanyCam data secure?

Your data stays scoped to your own permissions. Your AI tool connects the same way our public API works, and you can revoke access at any time.
