Editing Documents

Learn how to edit a document's layout, headers, and footers, including adding a custom image and using the CompanyCam Assistant to make text edits.

Once a Document exists, you can shape it to fit the job. This article covers the editor toolbar, how to control which photo details show, how to lay photos out, how to add a cover page, how to build headers and footers (including a custom image), and how to delete a Document you no longer need.

On the web

Using the editor toolbar

The editing tools sit at the top of the screen. From left to right: Header Size, Bold, Italic, Underline, Color, Checkbox, Bulleted List, Numbered List, Text Snippets, Insert Link, Add Photos, Add Table, Insert Cover Page, Undo, and Redo.

Including photo details

  1. Open a Document, click the 3 Dots Icon, and choose Document Settings.

  2. Use the Settings Toggles to choose which details show, such as Capture Details, Photo Tags, Photo Location, and Photo Numbers. Your choices apply to every photo on the Document.

Note: Photo details may look different depending on whether your photos are in List or Grid layout.

Adjusting the photo layout

Click into the photo section, then click the Layout Icon to set Photo Size, Layout, and Aspect Ratio.

Moving photos between groups

Click and hold the 12 Dots Icon that appears when hovering over a photo. Drag a photo from one photo group and drop it into another to re-sort your document without deleting anything or starting over. A drop indicator shows where the photo will land as you drag.

This is handy when photos didn't get grouped the way you wanted — grab the ones that belong together and move them.

Showing photo descriptions

Click the 3 Dots Icon on a photo block, then click Show Photo Text to pull in any descriptions attached to your photos.

Adding a cover page

  1. Open your Document and click the + Icon. Then click Cover Page.

  2. Add a title and photo. You can also edit location, date, and company details.

To remove a cover page, hover over the cover page body until it fills grey, then click the Trash Can Icon below the title.

Deleting a Document

Open the Document, click the 3 Dots Icon at the top, then click Delete.

Adding headers

The header sits at the top of every page in your document.

  1. Open your Document, then hover over the top of the Document and click to add a header.

  2. Click + Insert Field and choose the fields you want to include:

    • Document Title

    • Date

    • Author

    • Company Logo

    • Company Name

    • Company Phone

    • Company Address

    • Project Name

    • Project Address

    • Page Number

  3. Click + Add Image to upload a custom image to your header, such as a logo or branded banner.

Note: You can also ask the CompanyCam Assistant to update the text in your header, like the title or company name. See Chatting with CompanyCam Assistant for what the Assistant can do. The Assistant can't add or change the header image for you.

Adding footers

The footer sits at the bottom of every Document and uses the same fields as the header.

  1. Open your Document, then hover over the bottom of the Document and click to add a footer.

  2. Click + Insert Field and choose from the same fields listed above.

  3. Click + Add Image to upload a custom image to your footer.

Adding a section block

  1. Open the Document you want to edit and click the + Icon in the toolbar.

  2. Choose Photo Section, Table Section, or Notes Section to drop that block straight into your Document.

Can the CompanyCam Assistant edit my header or footer image?

The Assistant can update text fields in your header or footer, like the title, date, or company name. It can't add, remove, or change an image — you'll need to do that from the header or footer editor directly.

Can I use a different image in my header than my footer?

Yes. Headers and footers are edited separately, so you can upload a different image to each.

Can I move a photo from one group to another?

You can move a photo between groups by dragging it from one photo group and dropping it into another. Nothing is deleted when you move a photo — it just changes which group it sits in.

Can I move a Photo to a Notes or Table Section?

No, you can't move photos to the Notes or Tables sections. Right now, you can only move them within or between Photo Sections.

Can I move Photos within Document Template?
