Creating Document Templates

Learn how to create a reusable Document Template, and how to add a branded header or footer so every Document matches your company's look.

Document Templates let you save a Document layout and reuse it across Projects. Set one up once for daily logs, job-site reports, close-out docs, whatever your crew runs on, and apply it in seconds instead of starting from scratch every time.

This feature is available on select plans and is only available on the web.

On the web

Create a Document Template within a Project

Note: Only Admins and Managers can create Document Templates.

  1. Open the Project you're working on.

  2. Click Documents and open the Document you'd like to create a template for.

  3. To create the template, click the 3 Dots Icon in the upper-right corner of the Document, then choose Save as New Template.

  4. Title your new template and click Save.

Create a Document Template within the Templates Library

  1. Click Templates within the left-hand navigation menu under Resources.

  2. Navigate to Documents.

  3. Click + Create Document Template.

Add a cover page to a Template

Build a cover page into a template once, and every Document you create from it starts with one. Insert a blank cover page, and it fills in the details for the Project the template is used in, so you don't have to retype the address and date on every job.

  1. Open the template you want to edit.

  2. Click the + Icon, then click Cover Page.

  3. Make any edits to the Cover Page that you like.

Leave the project details blank. Those populate on their own when you use the template in a Project.

Add a section to a Template

Open the template and click the + Icon in the toolbar, then choose Photo Section, Table Section, or Notes Section. Every Document built from the template comes with those sections already laid out.

Add a branded header or footer

Add your logo or company info to the top or bottom of a Document Template so every Document built from it looks consistent.

  1. Open the template and click into the header or footer area.

  2. Click Replace with Image to upload your own logo or branding, or click + Insert Field to add dynamic info instead, like your Company Logo, Company Name, or Project Name.

  3. Turn on Hide on Page 1 if you don't want the header or footer to show up on the first page.

Once you apply the template to a Document, the header or footer carries over automatically, so every document your crew builds stays on-brand.

In the app

  1. Open a Project and tap on the Documents Section.

  2. Tap the Document you'd like to create a template for.

  3. Tap the 3 Dots Icon in the top-right corner of the Document, then select Save as Template from the menu.

  4. Give your template a title and tap Save.
