Using LiDAR to Measure Photos

Learn how to use LiDAR mode on iOS to measure objects directly in your job site photos.

Turn on LiDAR mode and your iPhone or iPad's LiDAR sensor adds measurements right to your photos as you take them. It's built for fast, on-site estimates so you can capture a dimension without pulling out a tape measure. Use it to speed up scoping, back up an estimate with visual proof, or give your team an accurate record of a job site.

This feature is only available on select plans and is only available on the mobile app.

Enabling LiDAR mode

Tap your User icon > Settings > Camera, then scroll to the bottom and enable LiDAR Mode.

Taking photos using LiDAR

Note: LiDAR measurements are approximate and best used for estimating. For best results, stand 3–15 feet from the object you're measuring and avoid transparent or reflective surfaces.

  1. Tap the Camera Icon as you normally would to take a photo.

  2. Choose the Project you want to take photos in.

  3. Tap the Measure Icon in the capture tool.

  4. If prompted, tap Start Measuring.

  5. Stand 3–15 feet from the object you're measuring and take your photos as normal.

  6. Tap Done when you're finished.

Measuring your photos

Once a photo has LiDAR data attached, you can open it and add measurements on the web or in the app.

On the web

  1. Open the Project and click the Photos Tab.

  2. Click the photo you want to measure. Photos with LiDAR data show a Measure Icon in the bottom-right corner.

  3. Click the Curved Line Icon to open the photo editor.

  4. Click the Measure Icon in the toolbar, then click the area you want to measure.

  5. Click Done, then click the green checkmark to save.

In the app

  1. After taking your photos, tap the Curved Line Icon on any photo taken with LiDAR Mode enabled to open the photo editor.

  2. Tap the Measure Icon, then tap the area you want to measure.

  3. Tap the green checkmark when you're done measuring.

  4. Add any additional annotations, then tap Save.
